On a dour day in London, India, led by the inimitable Kapil Dev, stopped the all-conquering West Indian juggernaut to change the course of world’s cricketing history forever.

Batting first, India were sent packing for a mere 183; presumably a cakewalk for a side boasting of Sir Vivian Richards, Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes and Clive Lloyd. In reply, disciplined bowling and watertight fielding ensured Kapil’s Devils stopped the mighty Caribbeans in their tracks. India won the finals by 43 runs, and a cricket revolution back home ensured it became a collective national passion.
