FIFA WC 2014: Netherlands beat Australia 3-2 in high speed thriller

NEI India Film Editing Via Daily.Bhaskar Delhi: Fresh from their incredible exploits against defending champions Spain, The Netherlands notched up their second win on the trot, but not before surviving a spirited Aussie challenge at Estádio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre. The final scoreline read 3-2 in favour of the Oranje, but that doesn’t take anything away from Socceroos who, as the lowest rank side in World Cup, put up a brave front.
By virtue of the win, the Dutch became the first team in this World Cup to make to final 16.
Arjen Robben, the Dutch stalwart who scored a brace in the memorable 5-1 thrashing against Spain, opened the account for 2010 finalists, but the lead was undone within a minute by Australia’s Tim Cahill’s gorgeous left foot volley.
Mile Jedinak put the Aussies ahead in the second half, but Dutch skipper Robin van Persie, who netted a brace in the memorable game against the defending champions, slotted the equaliser four minutes later.
Mathew Leckie missed a chance for the Socceroos and they were punished when Memphis Daley scored a stunner from 25 yards to put Netherlands on top.
