FIFA WC 2014: Colombia beat Ivory Coast 2-1, top Group C

NEI India Film Editing Via Daily.Bhaskar New Delhi: Powered by a sumptuous 64th minute header from young star James Rodriguez, Colombia defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in their Group C encounter at Estádio Nacional de Brasilia on Thursday.
The South Americans soon went 2-0 up, with substitute Juan Quintero scoring in the 70th minute. Three minutes later, Gervinho of Ivory Coast exploded into life, forcing his way past three defenders before flashing a shot past David Ospina from eight yards.

The contrasting styles of the two sides made for an intriguing rather than thrilling first half but Ivory Coast failed to put 38-year-old Colombian defender Mario Yepes under enough pressure.
Even Yaya Toure, who had a fantastic league season with Manchester city was remarkably subdued, and was consistently shadowed by Colombia’s Carlos Sanchez.
In the end, it proved to be a clinical outing for the Colombians, who, with two wins on the trot, are likely to surprise more teams with their attacking skills.
